Mr Peter Milling OAM (22 December 1930 – 18 January 2026)
A fourth-generation stock and station agent, Mr Milling devoted more than seven decades to the advancement of livestock marketing, thoroughbred sales and racing, and rural and residential property sales and management across Central Western New South Wales. Mr Milling began his career in his grandfather’s stock and station agency in Dunedoo and was instrumental in expanding the family business throughout the Central West, establishing offices in Dubbo, Mudgee, Gulargambone, Trangie, Narromine and Wellington. Under his leadership, the Milling agencies built a reputation for professionalism, integrity and innovation, with the business now operating continuously for more than 110 years.

He played a pivotal role in the development and expansion of the Dubbo Sale Yards, helping establish them as the largest and most significant selling centre in New South Wales, while also contributing to policy reform and improved rate structures at a national level.
A Respected Leader of Livestock, Thoroughbred and Property Industries Remembered
His outstanding contribution to the livestock industry was recognised in 1994 when he received the Australian Council of Livestock Agents Excellence Award, presented by his peers. Further honours followed for both industry leadership and community service, reflecting the breadth of his influence across regional Australia.
Mr Milling was also a highly respected figure in thoroughbred breeding and racing, serving as Head of the Blood Horse Breeders Association for 37 years. Beyond livestock and property, Mr Milling demonstrated remarkable business foresight through diversification. In the 1970s, he expanded the firm to include rural and residential real estate sales and property management, followed by the establishment of an international travel agency to service regional communities. This travel business was developed alongside his wife, Toni, and became one of the first American Express International representative agencies in Australia, operating successfully for decades and earning multiple industry awards under the Milling family’s stewardship.
As the Inaugural Chairman of the Dubbo Development Corporation, Mr Milling made a lasting contribution to regional development where he worked to advance the growth, infrastructure and long-term prosperity of the City of Dubbo, supporting business expansion, services and employment opportunities across the region.
